Icy roads lead to hazardous conditions for locals in Anantnag district, Scores injured

Anantnag 20, January: Snow and ice have created hazardous conditions for walkers, sending many sprawling to the ground in South Kashmir’s area of Anantnag district. Dozens of them  were injured after they fell down due to slippery conditions on various roads in South Kashmir’s area of Anantnag district.

According to hospital sources, a huge rush of injured persons on daily basis is being witnessed in GMC Anantnag for treatment after they ‘slip on icy and snowy roads or pavements’ leading to injuries.

Sources said that the orthopedic ward and OPD in GMC Anantnag is jam packed with  injured persons who come there on daily basis in these days and the doctors are suggesting people to take precautions while  walking on roads.

“Life was thrown out of gear in the morning today when snow and water on roads remained frozen. People find it difficult to walk on the roads due to slippery conditions,” said Arif Rasheed, local resident.

He said that scores of people were injured after they fell down due to slippery  roads in Anantnag town as majority of link roads, lanes and by-lanes are still covered with snow .

Arif added that the pedestrians and vehicular movement remained badly affected due to slippery conditions of roads in Anantnag.

It is pertinent to mention here that the ongoing 40 days period of harsh winter known locally as the ‘Chillai Kalan’ will end on January 31.

As per the experts, Kashmir has witnessed record breaking minimum temperatures this season.

Meanwhile, talking to Arising state Younis Kamal Assistant professor GMC Anantnag said that people have to take precautions while walking on roads.

He said: “In Anantnag, a huge of rush of injured persons is being witnessed  in GMC for treatment. We are receiving slipping accident patients on daily basis with leg, shoulder, hips ,thighs and backbone injuries . People have to take precautions while  walking to reduce risk of falling”.
