People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti said despite barring constituents of PAGD from free poll campaigning ahead of DDC polls across J&K by New Delhi and J&K Governments, the verdict made it clear that people of Jammu and Kashmir outrightly rejected the “unconstitutional” decisions taken on August 5, 2019.

Mehbooba Mufti who is also a former chief minister in a tweet said, “Even after a split in PDP engineered by GOI & all the attempts to write us off, my cadre worked day & night to ensure party’s victory. I am extremely grateful to them”.

She said despite all obstacles put up by Government to keep us away from canvassing but still PAGD emerged as a winner in DDC polls. “I was illegally detained thrice over the course of a fortnight. PAGD candidates were locked up in a government building while others barred from canvassing. Despite all these obstacles PAGD emerged as winners. This has been a hard-earned victory for all us”.

Mehbooba asserted that the mass participation of people in DDC polls gave a clear message to New Delhi that decisions taken on August last year were “unconstitutional”. “Today’s DDC results have made it clear that people of J&K voted en masse for @JKPAGD thus rejecting the unconstitutional decision to abrogate Article 370. They have overwhelmingly supported @JKPAGD which stands for the restoration of J&Ks special status”, Mehbooba said in another tweet.

Notably, State Election Commissioner (SEC) on Tuesday declared DDC poll results wherein PAGD emerged as the winner in Kashmir where BJP got only 3 seats – Khanmoh, Kakapora, and Tulail despite massive poll campaigning across by central level leadership. The BJP received a major setback in Doda also where the party’s vice president and former minister Shakti Parihar lost the elections against his rival Advocate Syed Asim Hashmi by a margin of 1400 votes.
