30 houses damaged after avalanche hits Gurez in north Kashmir

An avanlanche hit Khandiyal village of Gurez valley in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district late last night.

At least, 30 residential houses were damaged after an avalanche hit Khandiyal village of Gurez valley in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district late last night.

Pertinently, Gurez valley in north Kashmir’s Bandipora is the most avalanche prone zone area of the Jammu and Kashmir .

An avalanche that hit late last night Khandiyal village of Gurez valley in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district damaged several houses,cowsheds and some shops .

Repotedly, 22 houses have been completely damaged including partial damage to some cowsheds and shops .

However,independent sources said, the  avalanche that  hit last night at around 9.30 pm damaged  more than 30 residential  houses, several cowsheds and some shops.

Meanwhile officials while giving details of the incident said, 22 houses were completely damaged after the avalanche hit the area at around 9:30 pm last night.

He said around eight houses, several cowsheds and some shops were also partially damaged due to the avalanche.

He said that the village is located some five km from main Dawar tehsil of Gurez. There were no reports of loss of life.

“A snow avalanche hit village Khandiyal in Gurez last night (Thursday),” officials of the Disaster Management Department said.

They said many houses were damaged due to the avalanche.

“However, no deaths or injuries to anyone have been reported,” the officials said, adding further details were awaited.
