3 rooms for 110 students ,this govt school in Anantnag presents grim picture of Education department

Anantnag: 110 students of eight classes are crammed in three small rooms at a government-run school in Ranipora area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

The school building has only three classrooms; one is used for office and the remaining two for classes.

Functioning in the jurisdiction of Zone Shangas, the Government Girls Middle School (GMS) Ranipora was established in 1965 and was upgraded to a Middle school in 2011.

It was upgraded to Middle school in 2011. However, no additional building has been given to the school yet.

We are facing accommodation crunch and can’t give proper accommodation facilities to the students enrolled here, said a teacher posted in the school.

The teachers said that they usually conduct the classes of one group under open sky while the students of another classes are kept inside the building. “On one day we take classes of students from lower primary under open sky while as the students of higher classes class are adjusted in one room, said a teacher wishing anonymity.

Adding that the routine changes the other day in which  students of higher classes are made to sit in a classroom under open sky. But during rains or inclement weather conditions, the rooms remain congested and students are forced to take classes in a random manner ,he said.

The school caters to several villages in this far flung area of Ranipora.

While talking to Arising state a villager said, “We are living in a far flung area, where more facilities should be provided, but the authorities never visit here and the infrastructure of the school seems to be of no concern for them, said a villager of Ranipora.

He said that we requested several times to higher authorities to look into the matter, but to no avail.

Meanwhile ,the school lacks  basic infrastructure while  the interior walls of the school pose  threat of wild animals to students.
