29 dead as Delhi-bound bus falls into drain on Yamuna Expressway, several injured

At least 29 people were killed and several others injured after a Delhi-bound bus fell in a drain on Yamuna Expressway on Monday morning. The UP Roadways bus, which was going from Lucknow to Delhi, met with the accident near Agra.

Police have reached the spot and rescue operations are underway.

“Awadh bus depot’s Janrath Expressway Roadways bus no UP33 AT5877 lost control on Yamuna Expresway and fell in ‘jharna nala’ near Kuberpur,” UP police said in a tweet.

The police said that at least 27 bodies have been recovered from the partially submerged bus and 15-16 injured passengers have been admitted to hospital.

“One Sleeper Coach passenger bus travelling from Lucknow to Delhi met with an accident on Yamuna Expressway. It fell into the side fall about 15 feet deep. 20 passengers rescued so far. Efforts are on for the rest,” A Satish Ganesh, IG Agra said in a tweet earlier.
