Govt.Degree College Tral Celebrates World Book Day 2023

Pulwama: The Department of English Language and Literature in GDC Tral celebrated World Book Day on 24th of April 2023. The program was organised not only to rekindle the spirit of reading books and make poeple aware about the importance of english language but also to pay tribute to two great writers namely Miguel De Cervantes and William Shakespeare on their death anniversaries. The program commenced with the introductory remarks by Prof.Laila Khalid.She in her remarks delineated the history and significance of celebrating such days and also threw light on the life of William Shakespeare and Miguel De Cervantes .Prof Ishaq Ahmad Wani, Head Department of English Language and Literature in his keynote address highlighted the statistics related to increase in book publishing and also expressed the concern about dwindling habit of reading books by reciting a very beautiful poem by Sampuran Singh Gulzar. Incharge Principal Prof.(Dr) Shakeel Ahmad Khanday in his insightful inaugural address urged upon the students to inculcate the habit of reading more books to enrich the various aspects of their life .
Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad Dar in his presentation stressed upon the importance of reading books for the nourishment of mind and also highlighted their role not only in this life but also for life hereafter .
In addition to proposing Vote of Thanks , Dr.Hilal Ahmad Wani also conducted the proceedings of the whole programme very beautifully .More than hundred students from various semesters and faculty members attended the program.
