15 days on, Anantnag village reels under darkness

Anantnag: Iqbal colony Shangas, a village in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district has been reeling under darkness for the last 15 days while, according to locals, authorities are showing no interest in getting the damaged community transformer repaired.
Talking to Arising state villagers said that the prevailing darkness due to faulty transformers has added to the miseries of villagers particularly to the students.
“More than fifteen days have passed however, there is not any effort by the concerned officials to get the transformer repaired,” the locals complained.
Villagers said that they have been repeatedly demanding upgradation of the transformer as it gets damaged every now and then; however, the concerned authorities don’t pay heed to their repeated pleas.
They said that the village has 25 KV transformers and it gets damaged again and again. “In the past one month the transformer has got on two times yet the authorities have failed to upgrade the same.”
The locals said that the concerned PDD officials have been informed several times about the issue; however, they have failed to take any necessary steps to resolve the issue.
They said that the transformer gets damaged due to low capacity and the villagers have to bear the brunt.
The villagers also accused the Power Development Department (PDD) of being ‘indifferent’ to their woes.
“We are facing immense hardships in the absence of electricity. Our school going children are suffering badly. We are unable to charge our mobile phones while students cannot study in the evening,” villagers said.
Villagers requesting the LG administration to look into the matter and to resolve their long pending demand.
