At least 12 people have died after a four-storey building collapsed in Mumbai’s Dongri area on Tuesday, 16 July. While five people have been rescued, more than 30 are still feared to be trapped.

Fire brigade, Mumbai Police and civic officials rushed to the site but the constricted lanes made it difficult to access the area. Two teams of the National Disaster Response Force have also been deployed to help rescue those trapped.

The ‘Kesarbai’ building, located in a densely populated narrow lane, crashed at around 11:40 am

The adjoining buildings, that are reportedly in a dangerous condition, have been vacated

The 100-year-old building was owned by the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA)
